117 SoWashCo Schools Students Will Graduate with a Seal of Biliteracy Award

The Minnesota Seal of Biliteracy is an official recognition for proficiency in an eligible language other than English. 

The Minnesota Seal of Biliteracy is an award given upon high school graduation to students who complete all four years of English Language Arts and demonstrate proficiency in an eligible language other than English. 

The award honors bilingual and bicultural students. Students who earn the Seal of Biliteracy are also eligible for world language college credits at accepting colleges and universities.

This spring, students earned the Seal of Biliteracy in Arabic, Chinese Mandarin, French, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Somali and Spanish. Among the awardees, 27% earned an award in their primary home language and 6% are receiving English language (EL) services. 

  • 40 students earned a World Language Proficiency Certificate

  • 54 students earned a Gold Seal

  • 23 students earned a Platinum Seal (highest award)
