More than 250 violations were captured by the cameras for the 2022-23 school year, including 62 in just the past three months.

At the beginning of this school year, South Washington County Schools (SoWashCo Schools) began using stop-arm cameras on 44 school buses. More than 250 violations were captured by the cameras for the 2022-23 school year, including 62 in just the past three months.

The cameras help keep students safe by capturing violations of state law, which requires vehicles to stop at least 20 feet from the front and rear of a school bus displaying red flashing lights and a stop sign on undivided roads.

Funding for the cameras was made available through a grant from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. SoWashCo Schools has been awarded an additional grant to equip all buses with stop-arm cameras next school year.
