On Tuesday evening, SoWashCo Online held an in-person STEM night for current students and their families. The event featured
hands-on activities, such as beading a binary code key chain and programming a robot. A Q&A session was held with Natalie Wood, a Computer Scientist with Technology Education and Learning Support (TEALS), a Microsoft Philanthropies program. “Computer science is really important for future endeavors,” said Suha, a part-time SoWashCo Online student.
The evening gave students and families the opportunity to connect in person while learning about computer science. Mariam, a part-time online student and student council member said, “something SoWashCo Online got right is community.” Events like STEM night help to bring the students together and create a sense of connection.
“The students still want that connection with you even though you are not in front of them,” said Michelle Grubbs, a SoWashCo Online Computer Science teacher.
SoWashCo Online offers part- and full-time online learning experiences for students in grades 9-12. Students have the opportunity to learn in a flexible environment that best meets their needs, while being supported by experienced SoWashCo teachers.
