What's Happening SoWashCo Schools Nov. 22, 2022

  • 2022-23

Learn about the latest news regarding strategic planning, long range facilities planning and transportation.

There are a number of things that we are currently working on at a district level and we would like to provide you with updates:

Strategic Planning - SoWashCo Schools has been busy updating our strategic plan, including the desired daily experiences that we want to achieve for students, families and staff. We are thankful for the time invested in our strategic plan and appreciate the collaboration among our students and staff to help create a new strategic vision for SoWashCo Schools.

Long Range Facility Planning Process - Following the unsuccessful bond referendum in August, SoWashCo Schools recently hosted 45 Listening Sessions giving us the opportunity to listen to and gather feedback from families, staff, community members and local elected officials.

The information gathered in these Listening Sessions will help guide the next facility planning process. You can read the feedback from all of the sessions at: sowashco.org/facilityplanning/community-feedback

Transportation – SoWashCo Schools continue to feel the impact of the nationwide bus driver shortage. Our transportation team is looking for long-term solutions to transport students safely and consistently.

Any options or ideas created by our newly formed Transportation Steering Committee will be vetted through our families who have bus riders and transportation staff.

Please look for updates and an opportunity to share feedback in early 2023. Our timeline for approval of any new plan is this spring, and would go into effect for the 2023-24 school year.

If you have friends or family who may be interested in becoming a bus driver, we are hiring, please encourage them to apply. Our drivers have excellent benefits and pay starts at $20.40 an hour and increases to $22.90/hr after 75 days of employment.
