SoWashCo Online offers part or full-time online learning experience for students in grades 9-12.

SoWashCo Online offers students the opportunity to learn in a flexible environment that best meets their needs. SoWashCo Online students are supported by experienced SoWashCo teachers while meeting the same rigorous academic standards as our comprehensive high schools.

Academics

SoWashCo Online Student Experience

Students work on their online courses in ways that match their individual needs. Our high school course offerings are dependent upon enrollment and whenever possible, a blend of synchronous and asynchronous instruction are offered.

Project-based learning provides opportunities for students to collaborate with partners and groups. Learning experiences integrated with timely topics (current events) offer opportunities for students to create for authentic audiences based on personal interest. These learning experiences guarantee student voice and choice while being aligned to national, state, and local standards. Students receive timely, frequent, and detailed feedback on all learning experiences.

Students are expected to advocate and communicate for themselves whenever possible. Teachers will engage in and facilitate regular communication with the student and families.

Family Involvement

Teachers and families play and active role in supporting online learning. Early on in your student's course(s), your teacher(s) will develop learning pathway for each course. During this process teachers will be in contact with families regarding this learning pathway. Teachers will update families on student progress throughout the term and gather feedback from students as the course progresses.

How to Enroll in SowashCo Online

Please read through the following options and follow the enrollment information for the section that applies to your child.

Student Currently Attending SoWashCo Schools

Student currently attends, or will attend if in grade 8, one of SoWashCo Schools High Schools:

Park High School
Woodbury High School
South Washington Alternative High School

SoWashCo Online Scheduling Portal

Both Full-Time and Part-Time SoWashCo Schools students can add or drop classes via the SoWashCo Online Scheduling Portal. Students must be logged into their SoWashCo Class link account prior to accessing the portal.

Students interested in accelerated learning opportunities through tuition based classes should notate this in the course addition reason, select "other" and type in tuition based course.

Please note: students who attend a homeschool or private school may need to pay tuition to attend SoWashCo Online.

SoWashCo Online Scheduling Portal - New Student Registration

Students seeking either Full-Time or Part-Time schedules with SoWashCo Online can begin this process by completing the initial registration process through the SoWashCo Online Scheduling Portal.

Students interested in accelerated learning opportunities through tuition based classes should notate this in the reason for enrolling section of the initial registration.

Your student currently Attends a SoWashCo School

When your student submits a course request or drop request via the SoWashCo Online Scheduling Portal, an email will be sent to your inbox that looks like this (see below):

Within this email there are instructions for setting up your family Class link account (second link). Once this is set up, you will be able to click on the click here (first link) above to access your students requests.

Your Student Does Not Currently Attend a SoWashCo School

When your student submits an initial registration application, they will be prompted to put contact information for their parent/guardian into the application. Once the student has completed the application the student and parent/guardian will receive two emails (see below):

2024 Summer Acceleration Information

SoWashCo Online is offering a small number of accelerated learning opportunities for students going into 9th - 12th grade this summer. If interested in this opportunity, please visit this REGISTRATION LINK for more details.

Session Dates:

Session 1: June 12 - July 12
Session 2: July 15 - August 14

Note: Students can only sign up for one course per session.

If your student does not attend a school within SoWashCo Schools, you will also need to complete initial enrollment information for summer enrollment purposes. This will allow your student to access their course(s) during the summer session(s).

If you are only enrolling for summer acceleration purposes, please email Trista Arrigoni at tarrigon@sowashco.org. This will ensure that your students enrollment will expire at the end of the summer sessions.

What courses are available through SoWashCo Online?

Can students take an additional course via tuition payment?

Students may register for an additional course through our Scheduling Portal. Students should select "other" in the course addition reason and type in tuition based course. Once the additional course is approved, payment information will be sent and course will be placed in hold status till payment is confirmed.

Payment rates for SoWashCo Online courses are as follows:

Year Long Course - $790

Semester Course - $395

Trimester Course - $275

Quarter Course - $200

How many students can be in an online course?

Can students join SoWashCo Online from anywhere in the world?

Will some teachers be part-time online teachers and part-time brick-and-mortar teachers?

What diploma will seniors receive who are enrolled full-time in SoWashCo Online?

Seniors enrolled full-time in SoWashCo Online, even if they enroll full-time their last trimester of their senior year, will receive a SoWashCo Online diploma, not a diploma from East Ridge, Park or Woodbury High School. This diploma will not interfere with acceptance into any colleges or universities. A student who is enrolled in SoWashCo Online part-time will receive a diploma from the comprehensive high school they attend.

What will student transcripts look like?

The courses listed on a student transcript will be the name of the course as it is listed in the course guide. All online courses are named "Online". This does not imply that these courses are inferior to any course in our comprehensive high schools. To emphasize, we are offering Advanced Placement (AP) courses online and those courses will include the word "Online" in the title.

How does SoWashCo Online differ from our experience during emergency distance learning?

SoWashCo Online programs go through deliberate design process. This process was unable to take place during emergency distance learning due to time constraints. The creation of online learning experiences is also vastly different from learning experiences created for brick-and-mortar classrooms. Creators of online content work to develop a structure that is fine tuned to an online learning environment.
